Location

The AWBC takes place in a different city each year. If you are a non-corporate, non-government, community organizer within the USA, please contact us at your earliest convenience about bringing the AWBC to your city in August 2007. In order to achieve the international diversity in race, social class, gender, sexual orientation and so many other factors, planning and organizing for this annual, international, multiracial alliance-building peace conference is constant, ongoing and year round.

The AWBC 2006 will take place in Estecada, Oregon, which is only 40 minutes from Portland, Oregon.

We would like to thank St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church for sponsoring the meeting hall when we needed it. We used the meeting hall for meetings but the conference will take place in Milo McIver Park located in Estecada, Oregon.

The conference ends at 4pm on Monday, August 28th, 2006 and if you are not volunteering to clean up we ask that you please leave the campgrounds so that AWBC volunteers can clean-up as the AWBC strives to leave every venue cleaner than when the AWBC found it.

People who volunteer to help clean up the conference can stay until 9am, Tuesday August 29th, 2006.

BY TRAIN

Important: We do not recommend that you use Amtrak train service for travel to Portland unless you like taking risks, as Amtrak has considered filing for bankruptcy several times. The train has become one of the most unreliable forms of transportation to Portland in recent years. Several confirmed nationwide reports cite that Amtrak's Coast Starlight train, which services Portland, has Amtrak's largest number of late trains. We mean late as in days late and/or abrupt cancellations which has caused some people to lose their room reservations. More than one conference volunteer has experienced trouble with train service, including having to stand the entire train ride, missed connections and much worse.

*Zigzagging all the way from Mexico up into Canada through California, Oregon and Washington the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) has the greatest elevation changes of any of the Nations Trails, allowing it to pass through six out of seven of North America's ecozones including high and low desert, old-growth forest and artic-alpine country. If you're planning on hiking to the conference you will find a schedule/trip calculator and a trip planner by clicking here.
